Presentation properties

You can customize the presentation of your charts using the options under Presentation in Properties.

The following areas of chart presentation are customizable:

  • Sorting

  • Color

  • Labels

  • Styling

  • Tooltip

  • Axis

Information note

Not all properties are kept when changing between visualization types. For example, a stacked bar chart and a KPI have differing numbers of dimensions, measures, and presentation properties, so not all are kept when changing between visualization types.

When editing certain charts, you might not see any Presentation options under Properties. Click Open advanced properties to open the Advanced options properties panel, where you can customize the chart's appearance.

Sorting

Select how data should be sorted in the visualization. Additional sorting options are available in Advanced options.

The following settings are available:

  • By measure: Sort the visualization by one of the visualization's measure. You can sort ascending or descending.

  • By dimensions: Sort the visualization by one of the visualization's dimensions. You can sort ascending or descending.

Color

Customize how data should be colored in the visualization. If you set color as Auto, Qlik Sense picks the color for the visualization or uses the defaults set for the master items. If you select Custom, you can pick your preferred color settings.

Additional coloring options are available in Advanced options.

The following settings are available:

  • Single color: Color the chart using a single color (by default blue). Use the color picker to change the dimension color.

  • Multicolor: Option when more than one measure is used. By default, 12 colors are used for the measures. The colors are reused if there are more than 12 measures.

  • By dimension: Color the chart by dimension values. Each value uses a different color from a 12 color scheme. The colors are reused if there are more than 12 values. Use the dimension picker if the chart has multiple dimensions.

If you are using master items with default colors, you can choose to use the master item colors or not with Use library colors. In cases where a visualization has both a master dimension and a master measure that have colors assigned to them, you can select which to use in the visualization.

Labels

Customize the labels in the visualization, adding titles, subtitles, and footnotes, as well as customizing fonts and setting what information shows in the chart. The following settings are available:

  • Title: Add a title to the chart. Use the color picker to change the title color.

  • Subtitle: Add a subtitle to the chart. Use the color picker to change the subtitle color.

  • Footnote: Add a footnote to the bottom of the chart. Use the color picker to change the footnote color.

  • Font: Set the font and font size for the title, subtitle, and footnote.

  • Show value labels: Select to show value labels in the chart.

  • Hide dimension title: Select to hide the dimension title in the chart.

  • Hide measure title: Select to hide the measure title in the chart.

Styling

Bar charts, combo charts, pie charts, and donut charts only. Customize the styling of the charts.

Bar charts

  • Outline: Select the width and color of the bar outline.

  • Bar width: Set the width of the bars.

  • Options: Additional bar chart styling.

    • Scrollbar: Set the type of scrollbar to display. There are three settings:

      • Mini chart: Show a miniature of the chart.

      • Bar: Show a regular scrollbar.

      • None: There is no scrollbar, but you can still scroll in the visualization.

    • Scroll alignment: Set the position of the chart scrollbar. By default the scroll alignment is set to Start.

    • Grid line spacing: Select the spacing of the grid lines. The Auto setting is Medium.

Combo charts

  • Bars: Bar styling options.

    • Outline width: Select the width and color of the bar outline.

    • Bar width: Set the width of the bars.

  • Lines: Line styling options.

    • Data point size: Adjust the slider to set the size of data points.

    • Line thickness: Adjust the solider to set the thickness of the lines.

    • Line type: Set the line as Dashed or Solid.

    • Line curve: Set the curvature of the line as Linear or Monotone.

  • Options: Additional bar chart styling.

    • Scroll alignment: Set the position of the chart scrollbar. By default the scroll alignment is set to Start.

    • Show data points: Select the spacing of the grid lines. The Auto setting is Medium.

Pie charts

  • Outline width: Select if the pie chart slices should have an outline, and what the width and color of the outline should be.

  • Corner radius: Set the roundness of the corners of the slices.

Donut charts

  • Outline width: Select if the pie chart slices should have an outline, and what the width and color of the outline should be.

  • Corner radius: Set the roundness of the corners of the slices.

  • Inner radius: Set the inner radius of the chart.

Tooltip

Customize the information in chart tooltips. The following settings are available:

  • Basic: Sets the tooltip to contain the dimension and measure values.

  • Custom: Sets the tooltip to contain the dimension and measure values, in addition to other custom values:

    • Title: Add a title to the tooltip.

    • Description: Add a description to the tooltip.

    • Measures: Add additional measures to the tooltip.

Axis

Customize the presentation of the chart axes. Axis is available in: 

  • Bar charts

  • Scatter plot

  • Waterfall chart

  • Box plot

  • Distribution plot

  • Bullet chart

  • Histogram

The following settings are available:

  • Y-axis: You can set the y-axis to Auto, which uses a continuous scale, or Custom, where you can choose to not use a continuous scale.

    • Position: Set the position of the axis on the visualization.

    • Scale: Set the size of the scale. In some scales, you can also set if it should be linear or logarithmic.

    • Start at: Set the starting point of the axis as 0 or the lowest value.

  • X-axis: You can set the x-axis to Auto, which uses a continuous scale, or Custom, where you can choose to not use a continuous scale.

    • Position: Set the position of the axis on the visualization.

    • Scale: Set the size of the scale.

    • Start at: Set the starting point of the axis as 0 or the lowest value.
