Import Applications

The Import Applications step loads .qvf files from the project's Exported Apps folder and imports them into the Qlik Cloud tenant. Each application is recreated in the cloud environment with all its associated objects, including sheets, bookmarks, and stories.

Prerequisite steps

  • Export Users
  • Export Applications

Description

The Import Applications step loads .qvf files from the project's Exported Apps folder and imports them into the Qlik Cloud tenant. Each application is recreated in the cloud environment with all its associated objects, including sheets, bookmarks, and stories.

Step details

  • Import source:
    .qvf files are retrieved from:
Qlik Analytics Migration Tool\Migration Projects\<PROJECT>\Exported Apps

  • Ownership mapping:
Application ownership is reassigned based on the user mappings exported in the Export Users step. If the designated owner does not exist in Qlik Cloud, the application is still imported but will not be reassigned.

  • Origin copy:
A duplicate of each imported application is created and stored as the origin app. This origin copy is referenced later in the Publish Applications step.

  • Description tagging:
Upon import, the app description is automatically updated to include a JSON object with the following:

    • Original On-Premise app description
    • Original On-Premise app ID

This tagging allows future steps to uniquely identify the app within the Qlik Cloud tenant.

Notes

  • This step is required before performing any operations such as publishing, script updates, or reloading.
  • Use the Reset App Descriptions step under Post Migration to restore original descriptions after the migration process.
