Managing users

The Qlik Analytics Migration Tool supports secure, role-based access by allowing multiple authenticated users to collaborate within the same migration environment. This enables distributed workloads across teams or departments while maintaining governance and accountability.

Authentication models

User authentication is handled through one of the following identity providers, selected during installation:

  • Windows Active Directory (AD): Authenticates users against the local domain.
  • Azure Entra ID: Currently in preview and not yet documented. Support for Azure Entra will be detailed in a future release.

User roles

There are two available roles within the Qlik Analytics Migration Tool:

Role Capabilities
Owner Full access to all features, including inviting new users.
User Full access to migration features, but cannot invite other users.
  • Each user logs in using their domain credentials, authenticated by the configured identity provider.
  • The first user (defined during installation) is automatically assigned the Owner role.

User collaboration scenarios

Having multiple users enables more efficient, parallelized work:

  • Assign migration plans by department (for example, one user handles Sales, another handles HR).
  • Assign plans by region (for example, North America versus EMEA environments).
  • Allow platform admins to maintain ownership while delegating migration activities to power users.

Each user has access to all content within the tool but can independently manage their assigned projects and plans without affecting others.

Best practices

  • Limit the number of Owners to those responsible for system-wide administration and governance.
  • Use Users to distribute workloads.
  • Document internal user assignments and responsibilities, especially in larger organizations or multi-phase migrations.
