Working with report templates in the Qlik Sense app
In the Templates tab of the Reporting section of an app, you can manage all report templates you have added to the app, and upload new ones.
With the Qlik add-in for Microsoft Excel, create templates for your report tasks. You upload them here for use in report tasks.
Creating report templates
For specific details about how to create a report template using the Qlik add-in for Microsoft Excel, see Building report templates with the Qlik add-in for Microsoft Excel and related topics.
Uploading a report template
Upload multiple templates into the app for use in the various report tasks you create. When you create the report template, it is specific to the app you are creating for, and cannot be used for other apps. When you create the report template, it is specific to the app you are creating for and cannot be used with other apps.
Do the following:
-
In a Qlik Sense app, open the Reporting section and go to the Templates tab.
-
Click Upload template.
-
Click Browse. Browse for a template file and add it.
Changing the connected Qlik Sense app
When you upload a template, you are notified if the template is already connected to a different Qlik Sense app. If this is the case, you can update the connected app in this template copy you are currently uploading. Multiple copies of the same template can be uploaded across different apps, allowing reuse of templates for moved, duplicated, exported, and migrated apps. This workflow is also applicable when publishing apps to managed spaces.
You can also update the connected Qlik Sense app when uploading a new version of the same template.
To connect a template to a different Qlik Sense app, all app objects referenced by the template need to be present in the new app. If you encounter errors when trying to change the connected app, see Error encountered when uploading Excel template into Qlik Sense app.
A best practice is to ensure you have created a backup copy of the template before connecting it to another Qlik Sense app.
Do the following:
-
Use the procedure above to upload your template into the app.
-
When prompted, click the checkbox to confirm you want to change the connected Qlik Sense app.
-
Click Update.
The connected Qlik Sense app for a template can also be changed when you open the template in Microsoft Excel. For more information, see Changing the connected Qlik Sense app. In some cases, you will need to use this method.

Section access considerations
If the app uses section access, report generation works differently. For more information, see Tabular reporting and section access.
