SAP Connector installation
The Qlik connectors for use with SAP NetWeaver are installed using an installation package (.exe) for Windows. The package must be installed on systems running Qlik Sense or QlikView, either an SAP system client computer, or the SAP system server.
Objects, roles, and transports
When extracting data, the connectors use Qlik objects in the SAP system to communicate with the client. These objects are stored in:
-
/QTQVC/QTDEV_BW for the BW, BEx, and InfoProvider connectors
-
/QTQVC/QTDEV for all others
All objects are unique and prefixed with the reserved name space /QTQVC/. After the objects have been imported in an SAP system, it is possible to import a deletion transport to remove them.
The SAP user ID needs to have a role assigned that includes authorization objects. The provided roles contain the necessary authorization objects, and can be checked by Qlik objects and by standard SAP objects. Using the provided roles is not mandatory. Roles can be copied or modified, and custom roles containing the necessary authorization objects can be used instead.
Objects (such as ABAP programs, function modules, and dictionary objects) are distributed using data extraction transports, and roles are distributed using user profile transports. The transports are imported into the SAP system using the SAP transport management system.
SAP connector installation on Qlik Sense SaaS
Some Qlik connectors for use with SAP NetWeaver are supported on Qlik Sense SaaS when using a valid Enterprise license. The connectors are installed and updated automatically. However, the transports are not.
Do the following:
-
Go to the Qlik Download Site.
- Select Value Added, and then select Qlik Connector for use with SAP NetWeaver.
-
Use the Release filters to narrow your list of possible downloads.
-
Download the transports: [version].SAP.transports.zip
[version] will be replaced with a number. If you are downloading version 8.7.2 of the transports, the file will be: 872.SAP.transports.zip
For information on installing these files, see Installing the SAP transports - SaaS editionsInstalling the SAP transports - SaaS editions.
There is an installation guide in PDF format available on Community. It is attached to the release notes. Go to Release Notes, click on Products, and filter on Qlik SAP Connectors. There is also a release notes summary in PDF format attached to the release notes.
Backwards compatibility
When there is a new connector release, the SAP transports should be updated. There is backwards compatibility to the SAP code, so it is possible for a SAP connector to be added, without also installing the corresponding SAP transports.
The following table shows the current backwards compatibility of the components of the connector package:
Connector | Client | SAP transport (data extraction) |
---|---|---|
SQL Connector | Qlik Sense SaaS December 2019 or later | 6.1.2 or later |
BW Connector | Qlik Sense SaaS February 2021 or later | 7.0.6 or later |
SAP connector installation on Windows
The Qlik Connector for use with SAP NetWeaver is installed with the QlikSAP_x64Setup.exe, which is the 64-bit (x64) installation package (.exe) for Windows. The package must be installed on systems running Qlik Sense or QlikView, either an SAP system client computer, or the SAP system server.
The installation package must also be installed on all client computers that will use the SAP Connectors. Those computers must also be running Qlik Sense or QlikView.
The transports must be imported on all systems that will use the SAP Connectors. They are a separate package from release 7.0.3 or after. Before release 7.0.3, the transports were installed by the installation package.
Do the following:
-
Go to the Qlik Download Site.
- Select Value Added, and then select Qlik Connector for use with SAP NetWeaver.
-
Use the Release filters to narrow your list of possible downloads.
-
Download the following:
-
The installation package: QlikSAP_x64Setup.exe
-
The transports: [version].SAP.transports.zip
[version] will be replaced with a number. If you are downloading SAP Connector version 8.7.2, the file will be: 872.SAP.transports.zip
-

Prerequisites
The connectors have the following requirements:
- Qlik Sense version 3.2 or later
- QlikView version 11.00 or later
Each of the individual connectors has the following installation requirement:
- SQL Connector - SAP BASIS system 7.31 - 7.5x
- Query Connector - SAP BASIS system 7.31 - 7.5x
- Report Connector - SAP BASIS system 7.31 - 7.5x
- BEx Connector - SAP BASIS system 7.31 - 7.5x
- InfoProvider Connector - SAP BASIS system 7.31 - 7.5x
- OLAP Connector - SAP BW/NetWeaver BI 7.31- 7.5x
- DSO/ODS Connector -SAP BW/NetWeaver BI 7.31 - 7.5x
-
Extractor Connector - SAP BASIS system 7.31 - 7.5x
Information noteBW/4HANA systems must be connected via ODP technology. This means that the Extractor connector cannot be used with BW/4HANA systems. - BAPI Connector - SAP BASIS system 7.31 - 7.5x
Backwards compatibility
As a general rule, all components are recompiled for new releases. It is recommended that you always update both the SAP and Windows systems. There is backward compatibility to the SAP code, so it is possible to install the new release of the connector on Windows without installing the corresponding SAP transports. In that case, however, new functionality and bug fixes that are dependent on changes in the SAP code cannot be used.
The SAP code component of the connector software is backwards compatible to release 5.80 SR2 of the connector software. This means that you can install the Windows part of the connectors for a new release without installing the corresponding SAP transports.
The BEx Connector and the SQL Connector are based on a new framework on the Windows side. For these connectors, the backwards compatibility will start with the connector SAP code of release 6.3.0.
The following table shows the current backwards compatibility of the components of the connector package:
