Convert QlikView Applications

The Convert QlikView Applications step retrieves all QlikView applications specified in the migration plan, converts them to Qlik Sense applications, and saves the resulting .QVF files in the Converted Apps folder inside the project directory on the server.

Prerequisite steps

There are no prerequisite steps for this migration step.

Step details

  • Conversion process:
This step leverages the underlying QlikView Converter, the same engine available within Qlik Sense Desktop and Qlik Sense Client-Managed, to perform conversions—but does so programmatically through API calls under the hood. By automating the process, the migration tool simplifies and scales the conversion of .QVW files to .QVF format, ensuring consistency across larger migrations.

  • Generated content:
During conversion, the system automatically extracts and maps:

    • Variables
    • Master dimensions
    • Master measures
    • Master visualizations

These are preserved and restructured into formats compatible with Qlik Sense.

  • Output:
All converted applications are stored in the Converted Apps folder within the project. They can then be imported into Qlik Cloud through the Import QlikView Applications step.

Notes

While master visualizations are created for many supported objects, the converter does not attempt to replicate QlikView sheets in Qlik Sense.

This design decision reflects the fundamental differences between the platforms—from layout engines to design paradigms to user interaction models.

Instead of one-to-one duplication, the migration emphasizes preserving analytical logic and reusable components, empowering teams to rebuild experiences intentionally using the full capabilities of Qlik Sense's modern environment.
