Creating a Qlik Sense Converter connection

This page describes how to configure a Qlik Sense Converter connection in the Qlik Analytics Migration Tool. This connection is used to convert QlikView applications (.qvw) into Qlik Sense applications (.qvf) during migration to Qlik Cloud.

Qlik Sense Converter connections support two backend environments:

  • A Qlik Sense Client-Managed server
  • A local Qlik Sense Desktop installation
Information note

When a Qlik Sense Client-Managed connection is created, a corresponding Qlik Sense Converter Connection is automatically generated. Manual configuration is only necessary when additional or standalone converter setups are required.

Steps to Create a Qlik Sense Converter connection

  1. Open the Connections tab and select the Qlik Sense Converter option.

  2. Click Create New.

  3. In the Connection Name field, provide a descriptive label to distinguish this connection (e.g., Converter-Desktop-QA).

  4. In the Server URL field, specify one of the following:

    • For Qlik Sense Desktop:

      http://localhost:4848

    • For Qlik Sense Client-Managed (via virtual proxy):

      https://qliksense.domain.com/proxy-name

  5. If using a Qlik Sense Client-Managed environment:

    • Enter the corresponding API Key / JWT in the provided field. This token should match the virtual proxy referenced in the Server URL.
    • This field is optional and should be left blank when connecting to Qlik Sense Desktop.
    Information note

This connection is automatically created when configuring a Qlik Sense Client-Managed connection. Creating it manually is only needed if additional converter instances are required.

  6. Click Test Connection to validate the setup.

    • A success message confirms that the connection is valid.
    • If the test fails, verify the Server URL and, if applicable, the API Key / JWT. Refer to the error details for troubleshooting guidance.
  7. Click Create Connection to finalize the configuration.

  8. A confirmation message will appear and the new Qlik Sense Converter connection will be added to the list.
