Creating projects

Projects in the Qlik Analytics Migration Tool represent the execution framework for running migration jobs. Each project is tied to a specific migration plan, and serves as the container for one or more jobs that carry out migration steps like exporting, importing, publishing, or transforming content.

Projects are not only a structural requirement—they are a planning tool. They help break down large migrations into smaller, testable units organized by business domain, migration phase, or stream ownership. Each plan can be associated with multiple projects, allowing the same migration logic to be reused and adapted across different segments of the organization.

Steps to create a project

Do the following:

  1. Click Create New
Navigate to the Projects tab. On the right-hand side of the screen, click the Create New button.

  2. Define a Project Name
In the Project Name field, enter a name that clearly distinguishes the project from others.

The project name cannot be changed after the project is created.

  3. Add a project description (optional)
Optionally, use the Project Description field to describe the purpose or scope of the project.

  4. Select a Plan
Use the Plan dropdown to associate the project with a migration plan. The selected plan will define which objects and mappings the project can access.

    Information note

Optionally, enable Create standard jobs to automatically populate the project with a predefined set of jobs aligned to the most common migration steps. These jobs can be modified or removed later as needed.

  5. Create the project
Click the Create Project button to complete the setup.

  6. Verify
If successful, you will be redirected to the Projects list and a confirmation message will appear at the top of the screen.

Next steps
