Data Connections

The Data Connections tab maps Qlik Sense client-managed data connections to Qlik Cloud data connections.

Cloud table columns

Status

Displays the current status of the object using visual indicators. One of four possible options:

  • Cloud: Object already exists in Qlik Cloud. Hover over the status to see the Qlik Cloud object information.
  • Bound: Object already exists in Qlik Cloud and has been bound to the existing connection.
  • Warning: There is a setting that must be configured for a successful migration. Hover over the warning indicator to see the warning(s).
  • None: Row can be migrated successfully.

Connection Name

The name of the connection in the Qlik Cloud tenant.

Connection Type

The type of connection in the Qlik Cloud tenant.

Owner

The owner of the connection in the Qlik Cloud tenant.

Personal

Controls whether the connection should be imported as a personal connection in the Qlik Cloud tenant.

Space

The space where the connection should reside in the Qlik Cloud tenant.

Data Files

For folder connections, you can choose to migrate everything as-is or customize which files and folders are uploaded to Qlik Cloud.

Customizing files and folders to upload to Qlik Cloud in a folder connection

Do the following:

  1. Click Edit under the Actions column for the connection you wish to edit (see Actions below).
  2. Untick Migrate As-Is.
  3. Click the Customize button that appears. This will open a popup.
  4. Select the specific files and folders to migrate, and click Add.
  5. Click Save Changes.
  6. Click Save under the Actions column.

To remove files and folders from migration:

  1. Click Edit under the Actions column for the connection (see Actions below).
  2. Click the Customize button to open the popup.
  3. Select the files/folders you wish to remove from the migration plan, and click Remove.
  4. Click Save Changes.
  5. Click Save under the Actions column.

Data Gateway

Specifies the Data Gateway linked to this connection. Leave as None if the data source can be accessed directly by Qlik Cloud.

Migrate

Controls whether the data connection should be considered when the Create Data Connections step is run.

Update In App Scripts

Controls whether references to the data connection should be updated in app scripts of apps that are migrated.

Actions

Click Edit to make changes to the row metadata as it will appear in Qlik Cloud. Once complete, either click Save in the Actions column to save changes, or click Cancel to revert to the previous settings.

Tip note

To update object metadata at scale, select the rows you wish to edit and choose from actions under the Actions button at the top of the table, or apply changes using Excel export and import for bulk editing, advanced transformations, or updates generated outside the tool.

Binding Data Connections to Qlik Cloud Data Connections

If the data connection from your client-managed deployment already exists in Qlik Cloud, you can bind to that Qlik Cloud connection. When binding, all configuration applied to that data connection will be cleared and the input fields will become read-only with the exception of Update In App Scripts. The configuration will instead be inherited from the selected Qlik Cloud connection.

How to bind to an existing data connection

Do the following:

  1. Select the data connection you wish to bind in the plan in Cloud table mode. You can only select one row.
  2. Click the Actions dropdown at the top of the table.
  3. Select Bind to Existing Data Connection. A popup will appear.
  4. Select an existing data connection from the dropdown. The Filter Compatible option will narrow the available data connections in the dropdown to only connections of the same type.
  5. Click Save to save the selection and close the popup.

How to change the binding to an existing data connection

Do the following:

  1. Select the data connection whose binding you wish to change in the plan in Cloud table mode. You can only select one row.
  2. Click the Actions dropdown at the top of the table.
  3. Select Manage Data Connection Binding. A popup will appear.
  4. Select another existing data connection from the dropdown. The Filter Compatible option will narrow the available data connections in the dropdown to only connections of the same type.
  5. Click Save to save the selection and close the popup.

How to unbind from an existing data connection

Do the following:

  1. Select the data connection you wish to unbind in the plan in Cloud table mode. You can only select one row.
  2. Click the Actions dropdown at the top of the table.
  3. Select Manage Data Connection Binding. A popup will appear.
  4. Select Unbind next to the dropdown.
  5. Click Save to save the selection and close the popup.
