Restoring the edit access

Create dedicated spaces to share Studio connections and resources with only designated users.

This procedure applies to users who had the Manage permission but did not have the Editor (Author) permission for a space before the permission migration.

In the old permission structure, the Manage space permission allows such users to edit the Studio connections and resources in this space. After the migration, users need both the Studio connections and Studio resources – Edit user permission and the Editor (Author) space permission to perform the same edit operations. Although they automatically receive the Studio connections and Studio resources – Edit user permission, they do not automatically receive the Editor (Author) space permission. As a result, they unintentionally lose the edit permission in this space.

To ensure only the designated users can continue to create, edit, and delete specific Studio connections and resources after migration to the new permission model, follow the steps in this section.

Procedure

  1. Create a new space specifically for sharing Studio connections and resources.
This creation requires the Environment Administrator role.
  2. Move these Studio connections and resources into this new dedicated space.
For further information about how to move an object between spaces, see Moving tasks to another space.
  3. Give the Editor (Author) space permission only to users who need to edit and delete these Studio connections and resources.
For users who merely need to view or assign these Studio connections and resources, grant them the Viewer (View) space permission only.

Handling multiple Studio connection types or project-specific Studio connections

Multiple Studio connection types or project-specific Studio connections often require more granular access control.

Procedure

  1. Create multiple spaces.
This creation requires the Environment Administrator role. These spaces may correspond to projects or data source types, for example, Finance data space, Market analytics space.
  2. Assign the Editor (Author) permission in the new spaces to users who previously had Manage in the original space.
  3. Move Studio connections to their appropriate new spaces.
