Restoring the edit access

Create dedicated workspaces to share connections and resources with only designated users.

This procedure applies to users who had the Manage permission but did not have the Author permission for a workspace before the permission migration.

In the old permission structure, the Manage workspace permission allows such users to edit the connections and resources in this workspace. After the migration, users need both the Connections and Resources – Edit user permission and the Author workspace permission to perform the same edit operations. Although they automatically receive the Connections and Resources – Edit user permission, they do not automatically receive the Author workspace permission. As a result, they unintentionally lose the edit permission in this workspace.

To ensure only the designated users can continue to create, edit, and delete specific connections and resources after migration to the new permission model, follow the steps in this section.

Procedure

  1. Create a new workspace specifically for sharing connections and resources.
This creation requires the Environment Administrator role.
  2. Move these connections and resources into this new dedicated workspace.
For further information about how to move an object between workspaces, see Moving tasks to another workspace.
  3. Give the Author workspace permission only to users who need to edit and delete these connections and resources.
For users who merely need to view or assign these connections and resources, grant them the View workspace permission only.

Handling multiple connection types or project-specific connections

Multiple connection types or project-specific connections often require more granular access control.

Procedure

  1. Create multiple workspaces.
This creation requires the Environment Administrator role. These workspaces may correspond to projects or data source types, for example, Finance data workspace, Market analytics workspace.
  2. Assign the Author permission in the new workspaces to users who previously had Manage in the original workspace.
  3. Move connections to their appropriate new workspaces.
