This type of custom attribute definition allows users to select a value for the
category among a list of predefined entries.
Let's take the example of a variety
of datasets consolidating the results of polls and surveys taken by employees from different
departments of your company. Each of these dataset contains information about a specific
department or business domain, such as R&D, marketing, sales, etc. You want to make this
information on the business domain available as metadata for the datasets. In order to do
that, you will create a new category of custom attribute, based on a list of values, so that
users can freely add the business domain the datasets are focused on. This method will ensure
a consistent and harmonized formatting of the metadata for all datasets.
Procedure
From the left panel of the homepage, open the Custom attributes view.
Click the Add custom
attribute button.
In the Name field, enter
Business domain
Optionally add a Description in the corresponding field.
From the Type drop-down
list, select List of values.
To Start adding values to the list of authorized entries, click
the plus icon next to the
Values field.
In the New entry field, enter
Finance and click the check icon to validate.
Repeat this operation to add the following values and complete
the list of business domains relevant to your company:
HR
IT
Legal
Marketing
Sales
Leave the Mandatory
toggle unselected.
Making a new attribute mandatory means that its value cannot be left empty for a
given dataset and you must enter a Default value in the
dedicated field. This can be useful if you were to set up an attribute with a more
sensitive status, such as a Security classification for
example.
Optionally add a Default value in the corresponding
field.
Click Validate.
Results
The new Business domain attribute based on a predefined list of
values has been created, and can be found in the Overview of your datasets.
