Conversion outcomes
QV2QS assigns an outcome category to every QlikView object during conversion. The outcome determines how the object appears in the executive summary, the conversion report, and the Excel worksheets. Five outcome categories exist, evaluated in the following priority order.
Auto
An object is classified as Auto when QV2QS converts the object to a Qlik Sense visualization without any issues or flags. Auto is the default outcome. Any object that is not classified as Built-in, Error, Placeholder, or Adjustments Required is counted as Auto.
Built-in (skipped)
QlikView objects that have native equivalents in Qlik Sense and do not require a separate converted object. These objects are excluded from conversion scoring.
- Current Selections (CS) — Qlik Sense provides built-in selection bars and panels.
- Selection Object (SO) — Qlik Sense provides native selection and search functionality.
QlikView has two distinct search-related object types. The Selection Object (SO) is excluded because Qlik Sense provides the same functionality natively. The Search Object (SR) is a different type and is converted to a filter pane. For details, see Object type mapping.
Error
An object is classified as Error when QV2QS expected to produce a Qlik Sense object but no output was generated. Errors indicate an unexpected failure during conversion. Objects with an Error outcome require manual recreation in Qlik Sense.
Placeholder
QV2QS creates a placeholder text object when the QlikView object type cannot be automatically converted. The placeholder preserves the object position on the sheet and displays a message identifying the original QlikView object type. Placeholder objects must be rebuilt manually in Qlik Sense.
The following conditions produce a placeholder outcome.
| Condition | Description |
|---|---|
| Unsupported object type | The QlikView type prefix is not in the set of supported types. Unsupported types include bookmark selectors, certain selection types, and any custom or unknown type codes. For the full list of supported types, see Object type mapping. |
| QlikView extension object | The chart is a custom QlikView extension visualization built with the QlikView extension framework. |
| Unparseable chart definition | The chart definition is present but cannot be parsed due to malformed content. |
| Unrecognized chart mode | The chart uses a chart mode that does not map to any known chart subtype. |
Adjustments required
An object is classified as Adjustments Required when QV2QS converts the object but one or more properties could not be fully mapped. These objects appear in the Qlik Sense app but may need manual review or configuration.
The following table lists every condition that produces an Adjustments Required outcome.
| Object type | Condition | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Button | Unsupported actions | One or more button actions are not supported in Qlik Sense: run external program, export data, print object or report, run macro, close document, partial reload. Application chaining is flagged for manual configuration. |
| Listbox / Multi-box | TreeView display mode | QlikView hierarchical tree view display is converted as a standard flat list. The tree structure must be recreated manually. |
| Slider | Non-variable slider | Sliders not configured for variable input mode require manual configuration. |
| Slider | Range slider | Range sliders require manual configuration. |
| Calendar | No valid field binding | Calendar objects where no plain field name is available (all bindings are expressions or variable types) require manual configuration. |
| Input box | No variable binding | Input boxes without a variable binding configured require manual configuration. |
| Straight table | Horizontal / transposed layout | QlikView horizontal (transposed) tables have no native equivalent in Qlik Sense. The table is converted as a standard vertical table. Review the layout in Qlik Sense. |
| Bar chart | Waterfall detection | Bar charts with offset expressions are converted to waterfall charts. Middle measures default to subtraction mode and may need adjustment to addition mode. |
| Combo chart | Stock/candlestick detection | Combo charts with stock expressions are converted to boxplot (candlestick) visualizations. Non-stock measures are dropped and may need manual recreation. |
| Grid chart | Excess dimensions | Grid charts support a maximum of 2 dimensions. Extra dimensions are moved to the alternatives collection. |
| Radar chart | Single dimension padding | The Qlik Sense radar chart extension requires 2 dimensions. A synthetic constant dimension was added automatically. Review the chart in Qlik Sense. |
| Any chart | Overflow truncation | QV2QS cannot resolve dimension or measure overflow through automatic actions. Excess fields are truncated and must be restored manually. |
When a trellis chart grid is expanded to accommodate more dimension values than the original QlikView grid size, the expansion is recorded in the Overflow_Actions worksheet but the object is counted as Auto in the per-object outcome.
Analysis findings
In addition to per-object conversion outcomes, QV2QS scans each QlikView document for features and patterns that may require attention after migration. These findings appear in the Other findings section of the executive summary and in the Analysis worksheet of the Excel report. Some findings are informational. Other findings identify QlikView functionality that is not supported or works differently in Qlik Cloud.
For the complete list of analysis findings, see What is scanned under Analysis.
