Capacity planning

The Capacity Planning dashboard is meant to be run for a small number of representative servers and Change Processing tasks to help you forecast sizing requirements. It provides an overview of key metrics related to activity and performance as well as providing a summary of key capacity indicator metrics.

Charts related to Server Utilization and Change Processing Performance are also shown for the given time frame. Below each chart, you can toggle to view the trending data by hour, by day, by week, by month, or by minute. For the specified filters, the Capacity Planning dashboard displays the following information and charts:

Overall activity

  • Time Frame Start and End: The start and end time for the tasks that were run.
  • Total Tasks: The total number of tasks that were run.
  • Total Tables: The total number of tables for all tasks.
  • Total INSERTs: The total number of INSERTs applied.
  • Total UPDATEs: The total number of UPDATEs applied.
  • Total DELETEs: The total number of DELETEs applied.
  • Total DDLs: The total number of DDLs applied.
  • Total Applied Changes: The total number of applied changes for all tasks.
  • Total COMMIT Change Volume: The total COMMIT change volume for all tasks.
  • Total COMMIT Change Records: The total number of COMMIT change records for all tasks.
  • Total Applied Transactions: The total number of COMMIT transactions for all tasks.
  • Applied Changes by Task: Pie chart showing the total number of applied changes by task.
  • Applied Transactions by Task: Pie chart showing the total number of COMMIT transactions by task.
  • COMMIT Change Records by Task: Pie chart showing the total number of COMMIT change records by task.
  • COMMIT Change Volume by Task: Pie chart showing the total COMMIT change volume by task.

Overall performance

  • Average Memory: The average memory per task.
  • Average Disk Usage: The average disk space utilization per task.
  • Avg Qlik CPU - The average Qlik CPU (as a percentage) per server.
  • Avg Machine CPU - The average machine CPU (as a percentage) per server.
  • Throughput: The average, minimum and maximum target throughput (in rec/sec) per task.
  • Latency: The average, minimum and maximum apply latency (in seconds) per task.

Capacity indicators

  • Average Tables per Task: The average number of tables per task.
  • Average Applied Changes per Task: The average number of applied changes per task.
  • Average Applied Transactions per Task: The average number of COMMIT transactions per task.
  • Average Transaction Size: The average COMMIT change volume per COMMIT transaction.
  • Average Number of Changes per Transaction: The average number of applied changes per COMMIT transaction.

Server utilization

  • Average Memory: The area chart shows the average memory consumed by all tasks. The lines show the average memory for each task that was run.
  • Average Task CPU: The area chart shows the average task CPU (as a percentage). The lines show the average CPU for each task that was run.
  • Total Applied Changes and Change Volume: The total number of applied changes as well as the total COMMIT change volume for all tasks.
  • Average Disk Usage: The area chart shows the average disk space utilization for all tasks. The lines show the average disk usage for each task that was run.
  • Changes in Memory and Disk: The average number of changes accumulated in memory and on disk until source commit as well as the average number of changes in memory and on disk during apply and until target commit per task.

Change processing performance

  • Applied Changes: The total number of applied changes for all tasks.
  • Throughput and Latency: The average source and target throughput (in rec/sec) and the average source and apply latency (in seconds) per task.
