Installing Qlik GeoAnalytics for Qlik Sense Server

Welcome to this quick guide to installing Qlik GeoAnalytics on Qlik Sense Server.

Note that you will need a Qlik LEF license to install version 5.8 or later.

Requirements

This version of GeoAnalytics requires .NET Framework v4.8.0 or later.

Installation

  1. Download GeoAnalyticsForQlikSenseServer-<version>.zip from Product Downloads.

For more information, see Downloading installation files.

  2. Unzip the file into any folder on the server computer.

  3. Open up the Qlik Management Console (QMC).
  4. Enter your user name and password to login.
  5. Click 'Extensions' in the left hand menu.
  6. Click 'Import' at the bottom.
  7. Click 'Choose File'.
  8. Navigate to the folder where you unzipped GeoAnalyticsForQlikSenseServer-<version>.zip.
  9. Select any of the extension .zip files.
  10. Click 'Open'
  11. And repeat steps 4 - 8 until all .zip files have been imported.

The following steps need to be done on the actual server computer.

  1. Run the GeoAnalyticsSetup to set up GeoAnalytics.
  2. The setup ends with a new window where you enter your license.
By default the license tool will authenticate against Qlik Sense SaaS, but if you have configured a custom server during installation it will use that instead.
Information noteIf you have a signed key and a local installation of GeoAnalytics Server you will need to make sure that it has been upgraded to the May 2021 release or newer, as older versions don't support signed keys.
Information note When entering the license for GeoAnalytics on Qlik Sense Server 3.2.4 you need to specify the installation path of the extension manually since it is now on your specified QlikShare. If you have had an earlier version before, please check that the suggested path for the extensions is the actual one. The installation script can not detect that automatically.
  3. Sometimes the Server need a restart to detect new connectors. To restart open the windows Service dialog. Right-click and restart the ‘Qlik Sense Repository Service’ and the `Qlik Sense Service Dispatcher´.

That is it, you should now be ready to use GeoAnalytics for Qlik Sense Server

Custom installation/shared persistence

If you have installed your Server to use different paths to resources than the standard paths. Please use the "Custom Installation" option when applying license in the GeoAnalyticsSetup.

Configuration

You can configure a few global extension settings by editing the file IdevioMap\settings.js in the Qlik Sense extensions folder by adding or changing the values of the following properties.

Information note

The settings file is overwritten when upgrading, so any settings will need to be applied again. It is therefore recommended that you, if you edit the settings, make a copy of the file for easy restoration after upgrade.

Settings
Setting Type Description
server string Default GeoAnalytics server URL
allowCustomServer boolean If false, maps will ignore the map server URL setting in their properties and instead use the default URL
safeHtml boolean If true, info bubbles will be limited to only allow a small safer subset of HTML tags (a,b,br,em,i,img, small, span, strong, sup, sub) and attributes (class, style, href, target, rel, alt, src, height, width)

Updating

To update your existing GeoAnalytics for Qlik Sense Server the process is very similar to how you initially installed it.

Simply select all the GeoAnalytics extensions.

Press 'Delete' in the lower left corner.

Follow the instructions in the Installation section.

After installing/updating

If you install the GeoAnalytics extensions as instructed but get the error "Invalid Visualization", it most likely is because Qlik Sense occasionally has problems with its cache. To resolve this issue you need to clear the browser cache, but how you do that depends on how you run Qlik Sense.

Below you will find a short step by step guide on how to clear the cache depending on how you run Qlik Sense. Terminology may differ between languages but the functionality should be the same.
