Opening a master data record
Before you begin
- The MDM server is already launched.
- You have been assigned a role with the appropriate user authorization and access rights.
- You have selected the data container that holds the master data you want to manage and the corresponding data model against which the master data will be validated.
- At least one view has been created in Talend Studio.
About this task
Procedure
-
Search the records of interest in the Master
Data Browser page.
Example
This page always opens on the master data record list pertaining to a specific entity. The first record in the list is selected by default and its details show in the panel to the right.Information noteNote: The number of the records displayed in the page depends on what you have already defined in the Lines/page box in a previous search. Change the number in the box according to your needs and then restart your advanced search to display the desired number of records in the page. This number will be retained every time you try to browse data records in the repository (MDM hub). -
From the list, you can click a specific master data record to show its details in the
pane to the right or right-click the record to display a contextual menu.
Example
-
From the contextual menu, select:
Option
To...
Edit item with row editor
update the record through a row editor.
Open item in new tab
open the record details in a new tab.
All viewable attributes pertaining to the data record appear in the panel to the right.Information noteNote: If a foreign key has been defined to link the selected entity to another entity in the data model, two tabs will display in the detail view to represent the two entities linked together. If a smart view has already been created in Talend Studio for the business entity that holds the record, the Master Data Browser page will open on this customized view and not on the usual generated view.
These attributes differ according to what has been defined in Talend Studio when defining the data model. For more information, see Creating a data model.
Information noteNote: All the viewable attributes associated with the displayed master data record are based on the access rights of the role assigned to you by the administrator/manager.By default, read-only attributes are displayed in grey, while writable attributes are displayed in white.
However, you can change the colors in which the read-only attributes are displayed for all users or for a specific user.
Many management operations are accessible through the different tabs in this generated form of the data record. The table below explains these operations.

A master data record may come from a golden record built from a group of one or more similar staging data records which are matched and merged according to the match rule attached to a specific entity.
To learn the group of source staging data record(s) and how the match rule is applied to them, in the Master Data Browser page, click More... and select the desired options from the contextual menu. For the description about the options available in the contextual menu, see the table below.
The following options are available on the view toolbar:

If the entity that the data record pertains to has foreign key links with other entities, the following options are available:
- Navigator: open a page that allows an authorized user to graphically explore all master data records linked with any selected master data record by foreign keys.
- Relations: open a page where you can define criteria to search the data records linked with the selected data record. Note that this option is available as long as there is a foreign key defined to point to the entity that the selected data record pertains to.
If the master data record comes from a golden record which is built from a group of one or more staging data records through the match and survivorship process, the following options are available:
- Match Lineage: open a page which lists the relevant staging data records that were merged to create the golden record, along with the golden record itself.
- Open Task: open the associated Talend Data Stewardship task page. Make sure you have logged into Talend Data Stewardship as a data steward of the relevant campaign to which the task belongs. Note that if the master record comes from a golden record whose status is 205 after the match and survivorship process, no Talend Data Stewardship task will be created, and in this case, this option is not available.
- Match Plan: open a dialog box which shows the match details.
The drop-down arrow display a list of all the runnable processes created in Talend Studio on the selected entity. From this list, you can run any of the listed processes to carry out a specific task on master data.
