Opening a master data record in an entity

Availability-noteDeprecated
You can open and view a master data record pertaining to a specific entity.

About this task

The following example shows how to open a master data record pertaining to the entity Product.

Procedure

  1. Click the drop-down list on the upper left corner and select the view over the entity of your interest, Product in this example.
All records pertaining to the entity will be returned and displayed.
  2. If needed, perform a search with a specified criteria to narrow down the listed data records by following Searching for master data records in an entity.
  3. Move the mouse over your interested data record and click Open record in its first cell, or click the ID of the data record.
All viewable attributes associated with the data record are displayed in a pop-up panel on the right, including the value of the foreign key attribute if any.
Information noteNote: The viewable attributes are based on the access rights of the custom role assigned to you by the administrator.

The attributes assigned to the same category are displayed in a separate tab. For more information about how to add a category and assign attributes to it, see Adding a category and assigning elements to it.

The foreign key attribute is displayed in a separate tab if it is not rendered in the main tab. If the foreign key attribute is assigned to a category, it is displayed in the tab for the category no matter whether it is rendered in the main tab or not. For more information about how to render a foreign key in the main tab, see Adding a foreign key: linking entities together.

All tabs are displayed in the following order: main tab, foreign key tabs, category tabs. The foreign key tabs are displayed in the order that the foreign keys are defined in the data model. The category tabs are displayed in the order that the categories are defined in the XML schema source of the data model. You can change the order of the category tabs by changing the order of the category definition in the XML schema source of the data model in Talend Studio.

  4. Click X in the upper right corner of the pop-up panel to close it.
