Internal and external objects

Qlik Catalog displays (external) views of source metadata environments in source and (internal) views of data objects loaded into the file system.

Source displays a catalog of metadata that is relevant to lineage, loading, storage and discovery details records and exposes associated metadata that enables users to explore and describe business data. Within Qlik Catalog, one can be looking at an 'external' RDBMS entity via an internal view (discover). An 'internal' source has been created within the environment through ingest, prepare, query, and explore.
