Adding data from Qlik DataMarket

Qlik DataMarket offers an extensive collection of up-to-date and ready-to-use data from external sources accessible directly from within Qlik Sense. Qlik DataMarket provides current and historical weather and demographic data, currency exchange rates, as well as business, economic and societal data.

Qlik DataMarket also offers data sets from the Eurostat database, including Database by themes, Tables by themes, Tables on EU policy, and Cross cutting topics.

When adding data from Qlik DataMarket, you select categories and then filter the fields of data available in those categories. The DataMarket categories contain large amounts of data, and filtering allows you to take subsets of the data and reduce the amount of data loaded.

Some Qlik DataMarket data is available for free. Data packages marked Premium are available for a subscription fee.

Before you can use Qlik DataMarket data, you must accept the terms and conditions for its use. Also, if you have purchased a license for premium data packages, you must enter your access credentials to use data in those packages. Once access credentials have been applied, the premium data is labeled Licensed.

If you accept the terms and conditions but do not enter a license for any of the premium data packages, the premium packages have a Purchase button next to them that enables you to buy a license. The Purchase button replaces the Premium label.

Information noteIt is not necessary to accept Qlik DataMarket terms and conditions when using Qlik Sense Desktop. Access credentials are also not required because the premium data sets are not available on Qlik Sense Desktop.

To learn more about activating the license , see Activating the Qlik DataMarket license.

Do the following:

  1. Open your app.
  2. Open the Data manager and then click ú. You can also click Add data in the ¨ menu.
  3. Click Qlik DataMarket to display the Qlik DataMarket packages.

Warning noteThe DataMarket user interface can be blocked by browser extensions, such as Privacy Badger, that block ads and enhance privacy. This occurs if the extension mistakes DataMarket’s communications for user-tracking by a third party. If you encounter this, you can access DataMarket by excluding your Qlik Sense site from the list of blocked sites in the browser extension that blocks DataMarket.
  4. Select a data package.

You select a data package from the list (for example, Essentials Free or Financial Reports), or you can search for specific types of data. To search Qlik DataMarket, select Search DataMarket at the top of the list of data packages and enter a search term or phrase in the search text box on the Select a dataset step.

For more information, see Searching Qlik DataMarket.

  5. Select a data set in the Select a dataset step.

Depending on the DataMarket package you select, you might have to select several subcategories within the package to get to individual data sets that contain data. Data sets are distinguished by the ] icon next to the data set description. Clicking the ] icon displays the data set's metadata.

Selecting the data set creates a connection to that specific data collection.

  6. Select at least one filter from each dimension, measure and time period in the Select data to load step.

The left pane lists the dimensions, measures and time periods. If you click on a dimension, measure or time period in the left pane, the values of that dimension, measure or time period are displayed in the right pane.

There is a load size indicator at the bottom of the left column that shows approximately how many cells will be loaded with the currently selected fields. The indicator is green when the number is small, and it becomes yellow when the number increases to a size that might noticeably affect the load time. The indicator becomes red when the amount of data is so large that it might not load successfully.

To learn more about dimensions, measures and time periods in Qlik DataMarket, see Selecting Qlik DataMarket dimensions, measures and time periods.

To learn more about hierarchical data in Qlik DataMarket, see Selecting hierarchical data from Qlik DataMarket.

  7. Click Add data to open the data in the Associations view of the data manager. This allows you to continue to add data sources, transform the data, and associate the tables in Data manager.

Data profiling is enabled by default when you click Add data. Data profiling does the following:

    • Recommends data associations.
    • Auto-qualifies common fields between tables. This adds a unique prefix based on table name.
    • Maps date and time fields to autoCalendar.

Tables are not associated on common field names automatically. You can associate tables in the Associations view.

Tip noteIf you want to load the data directly into your app, click ¥ and then disable data profiling. This will also reload all existing data from data sources when you add the data. Tables will be associated on common field names automatically. Date and time fields will not be created.
  8. For more information, see Connecting to data sources.

  9. Click Load data when you are done preparing the data. If serious problems are detected, you need to resolve the problems in Data manager before you can load data into the app.

For more information, see Troubleshooting - Loading data.
