Installing custom themes

When you have created a custom theme, you store it in Qlik Sense as an extension. Zip the JSON file and any additional resources (such as CSS files and image files), and import them into the Qlik Management Console (QMC) as an extension. This enables that security rules can be added in the QMC for controlling which themes specific users have access to.

Installing custom themes in Qlik Sense Desktop

Do the following:

  1. Open a Windows Explorer window and navigate to ..\Users\<UserName>\Documents\Qlik\Sense\Extensions.

  2. Create a new folder and give it a suitable name.

  3. Copy the files that you created or downloaded to the new folder.

There should be at least one JSON file and one QEXT file, but there can be more files.

  4. Launch Qlik Sense Desktop and open an app.

Click More and then click Settings to open app options.

Verify that the custom theme is visible from the App Theme drop-down menu.

Do the following:

  1. Create a zipped file of the theme project containing all the files.

  2. Open Qlik Management Console.

  3. Select Extensions on the QMC start page or from the Start Arrow down drop-down menu to display the overview.

  4. Click Create new Import at the bottom.

  5. Click Choose File.

  6. Browse to and click the zipped custom theme file that you want to add.

Enter the password for the zip file if it is password protected.

  8. Click Import.

Information noteIf the name of an extension already exists (or occurs more than once in the zip file), the zip file will not be uploaded. An extension within an extension in the zip file will be accessible in the extensions overview (and stored twice on disk).
Information noteExtensions are saved to ..\ProgramData\Qlik\Sense\Repository\Extensions. The maximum file size is half of the free disk space.
  9. Launch Qlik Sense and open an app.

Click More and then click Settings to open app options.

Verify that the custom theme is visible from the App Theme drop-down menu.
