Sending email with OAuth 2.0 in QlikView
Last updated: 9/29/2026QlikView can send email through Microsoft Graph by using OAuth 2.0 with Microsoft 365. OAuth 2.0 is an additional mail connection method; existing SMTP configuration remains available.
When OAuth 2.0 is selected, QlikView does not connect directly to an SMTP server. It obtains an access token from login.microsoftonline.com and sends email through the Microsoft Graph REST API at graph.microsoft.com/v1.0/users/{sender}/sendMail.
Prerequisites
Before configuring QlikView, register an application in Microsoft Entra ID:
- Sign in to the Azure portal and go to Microsoft Entra ID > App registrations > New registration.
- Register the application.
- Under Certificates & secrets, create a client secret and copy its value. The value is displayed only once.
- Under API permissions, add the Microsoft Graph Mail.Send application permission.
- Grant admin consent for the permission.
- Record the Application (client) ID and Directory (tenant) ID.
The application must have Mail.Send permission for the mailbox used as the sender.
Security
QlikView encrypts the Tenant ID, Client ID, and Client Secret before storing them. The credentials are not stored as plain text.
Testing OAuth 2.0 mail
Use the test-mail control in the configuration page:
- In QlikView Desktop, click Test on the User Preferences > Mail page.
- In the QlikView Management Console, enter an address in Send Test E-mail To and click Send.
QlikView obtains an OAuth 2.0 token and sends the test email through Microsoft Graph. If a step fails, review the error message.
File attachments
When QlikView sends email with attachments, it includes the attachments inline in the Microsoft Graph request as Base64-encoded content. Each attachment is limited to 3 MB. For larger files, use another delivery method.
