Enabling and configuring audit capabilities in Talend Data Preparation

You can enable and configure the audit capabilities in Talend Data Preparation to ensure that the events are tracked and recorded properly.

All user actions on designated item in Talend Data Preparation can be audited. Audit events show who took the action, what was the exact operation and when it happened. You can also decide to disable the audit capabilities and stop generating audit events in certain circumstances.

Audit events include the following:

Category Event
Folder A folder has been created.
A folder has been deleted.
A folder has been renamed.
A folder has been shared.
Preparation A preparation has been created.
A preparation has been deleted.
A preparation has been copied.
A preparation has been moved.
A preparation has been renamed.
A preparation has been imported.
Step A step has been created.
A step has been updated.
A step has been deleted.
A step has been reordered.
A step has been copied from an existing preparation.
Version A version has been added.
Export A sample from a preparation has been exported.
All the data from a preparation has been exported.
Studio run A preparation has been used in a Talend Job with the tDataprepRun component.

Before you begin

You have installed Talend LogServer when installing Talend Data Preparation.

Procedure

  1. Open the <TDP_installation_path>/dataprep/config/application.properties file.
  2. Set the value of the audit.log.enabled parameter to true
  3. Open the <TDP_installation_path>/dataprep/config/audit.properties file.
  4. For the log.appender parameter, select one, or several of the following values:
    Property Description
    socket This value must no be used.
    file The log entries will be stored into a .json file.

    You can optionnally configure a Filebeat instance to pick up up new messages and send them to Logstash. To configure Filebeat, edit the <TDP_installation_path>/filebeat.yml file.

    console The audit log messages will be stored in the <TDP_installation_path>/data/logs/app.log log file.
    http The log entries will be sent through HTTP requests.

    You can check the audit events later by accessing the log service platform http://[log server address]:5601 and selecting talendaudit* from the Dashboard list in the upper left corner.

  5. Save your changes.
  6. Start Talend LogServer.
  7. Start Filebeat if you want to use it.
  8. Start Talend Data Preparation if you want to use it.
