Deploying your visualizations

Depending on your Qlik Sense setup, there are different ways of deploying your visualizations.

Warning noteQlik Sense cannot ensure that the JavaScript in customized visualizations is written in a reliable manner and that they do not pose a safety hazard.

Deploying visualizations in Qlik Sense Desktop

Visualizations that you have created outside of Extension workbench, or visualizations that someone else has created for you, must be copied to the correct location for it to be visible in Qlik Sense Desktop.

Do the following:

  1. Open a Windows Explorer window and navigate to C:\Users\[UserName]\Documents\Qlik\Sense\Extensions.

  2. Create a new folder and give it an appropriate name.

  3. Copy the visualization files that you created to the new folder.

There should be at least one JavaScript file and one qext file but there can be more files.

You have now made your visualization available in Qlik Sense Desktop.

Deploying visualizations in Qlik Sense

You need to import your extension to the repository in order to make it available in Qlik Sense. This is done via the Qlik Management Console.

Information noteAll files in the visualization or visualizations needs to be compressed (zipped) and delivered to the System Administrator responsible for deploying the visualization to the Repository.
Information noteBy default only the RootAdmin user has the access rights to upload extensions. To enable others to upload visualizations, you will need to define security rules for this. Also, by default all Qlik Sense users have access to all visualization that you add. To change this you will need to revise the security rule named Extension.

Do the following:

  1. Create a zipped file of the extension project containing all the files.

  2. Open Qlik Management Console.

  3. Select Extensions on the QMC start page or from the StartS drop-down menu to display the overview.

  4. Click PImport in the top right corner.

  5. Select a file to import.

Remember yo enter the password for the zip file if it is password protected.

  6. Browse to and click the zipped extension file that you want to add.
  7. Click Open in the File explorer window.

  8. Click Import.

Information noteIf the name of an extension already exists (or occurs more than once in the zip file), the zip file is not uploaded. An extension within an extension in the zip file will be accessible in the extensions overview (and stored twice on disk).
Information noteExtensions are saved to %ProgramData%\Qlik\Sense\Repository\Extensions. The maximum file size is half of the free disk space.

You have now uploaded one or more new extensions.
