# Software requirements

Java 21 is the recommended Java version for Talend 8.0.1-R2026-06 and later.

| Java 21 support for executing artifacts | Data Integration Jobs, Routes, and Data Service Jobs can be compiled and<br>executed with Java 21. Routine compilation level can be set to Java 8, Java<br>17, or Java 21. The following execution requirements apply:<br><br><ul> <li>Artifacts compiled with Java 21 require Java 21 runtime.</li> <li>Artifacts compiled with Java 17 can run on Java 17 or Java 21                            runtime.</li> <li>The Routine compilation level must not be higher than the Job                            compilation level.</li> </ul><br><br>Big Data Jobs are compiled with Java 8 compliance but include add-opens<br>parameters for Java 17 and Java 21 runtime compatibility in Talend modules. When deployed to a big data cluster, the Job executes with the<br>Java version running on that cluster.
