# Setting up the Update URL of Talend Studio

## About this task

You can use a URL containing the latest monthly update or a specific monthly update you want to apply to Talend Studio. To test an update before applying it to one or more Talend Studio instances, see [Testing and applying a Talend Studio monthly update](https://help.qlik.com/talend/en-US/installation-guide-linux/Cloud/best-practice-testing-talend-studio-monthly-update "Before installing a monthly update on your Talend Studio and migrating your projects to a newer version on the production branch, you can test project migration on testing branches first to keep your production branch safe.").

## Procedure

1. In Talend Studio, click Window > Preferences.
2. Expand the Talend menu.
3. Click Update settings.
4. If there is a Use local update settings check box displayed, select the check box to show the Update URL field.
5. Under Update URL, enter the update URL:
   * The URL containing the latest update of Talend Studio. For example: https://update.talend.com/Studio/8/updates/latest

Talend Studio will automatically check for new monthly updates at start up.

   * A custom URL containing a specific monthly update and following the pattern https://update.talend.com/Studio/8/updates/RYYYY-MM[vV], where YYYY is the year, MM is the month, and V (optional) is the version number of the update. For example: https://update.talend.com/Studio/8/updates/R2021-11v1.

For more information about the update URL, see [Setting up an update repository for Talend Studio and Continuous Integration](https://help.qlik.com/talend/en-US/installation-guide-linux/Cloud/setting-up-update-repositories-for-studio-and-ci "Qlik provides the following ways to configure an update repository, also called p2 repository, before installing updates, namely the patch zips assigned to you, and feature packages in Talend Studio or building your project artifacts using Continuous Integration.") and [Configuring update repositories](https://help.qlik.com/talend/en-US/studio-user-guide/8.0/configuring-update-repositories).

## Results

Talend Studio will prompt you to install the updates you required. If new features are required for your project, Talend Studio will notify you of the necessary upgrade and will automatically install the features.
