# Setting up the Update URL of Talend Studio

## About this task

You can configure the update track or a custom update URL for Talend Studio. To test an update before applying it to one or more Talend Studio instances, see [Testing and applying a Talend Studio monthly update](https://help.qlik.com/talend/en-US/installation-guide-linux/8.0/best-practice-testing-talend-studio-monthly-update "Before installing a monthly update on your Talend Studio and migrating your projects to a newer version on the production branch, it is recommended to test project migration on testing branches first to keep your production branch safe.").

When the update URL is not controlled by a Talend Management Console administrator, local update settings offer the Monthly Release, Support Release, and Custom update options. The Custom update option uses a custom URL, and optional basic-auth credentials are available. For option descriptions and support periods, see [Understanding the update lifecycle for Talend Studio](https://help.qlik.com/talend/en-US/installation-guide-linux/8.0/studio-update-lifecycle "Starting with the 8.0.1-R2026-10 release you can either update Talend Studio to a monthly release or to a support release.").

## Procedure

1. In Talend Studio, click Window > Preferences.
2. Expand the Talend menu.
3. Click Update settings.
4. If the Use local update settings check box is displayed, select it to show the Update URL field.
5. Under Release Type, select Monthly Release, Support Release, or Custom update.

The Monthly Release option checks for updates at https://update.talend.com/Studio/8/updates/latest. The Support Release option checks for updates at https://update.talend.com/Studio/8/updates/latest-SR. For descriptions of these update tracks, see [Understanding the update lifecycle for Talend Studio](https://help.qlik.com/talend/en-US/installation-guide-linux/8.0/studio-update-lifecycle "Starting with the 8.0.1-R2026-10 release you can either update Talend Studio to a monthly release or to a support release.").
6. If you selected Custom update, under Update, enter the custom update URL.
 * A URL containing a specific monthly update and following the pattern https://update.talend.com/Studio/8/updates/RYYYY-MM[vV], where YYYY is the year, MM is the month, and V (optional) is the version number of the update. For example: https://update.talend.com/Studio/8/updates/R2025-01v2.
 * A URL containing a specific Support Release and following the pattern https://update.talend.com/Studio/8/updates/RYYYY-10-SRnn. For example: https://update.talend.com/Studio/8/updates/R2026-10-SR01.

For more information about the update URL, see [Configuring update repositories](https://help.qlik.com/talend/en-US/studio-user-guide/8.0/configuring-update-repositories).
