# Installing and updating Talend Studio

When installing Talend Studio, either using the installer or manually, a minimal version with some basic Data Integration features is installed. After Talend Studio installation, to use those features that are not shipped with Talend Studio by default, you need to install them through the Feature Manager. For more information, see [Managing features in Talend Studio](https://help.qlik.com/talend/r/en-US/8.0/studio-user-guide/managing-features-in-talend-studio).

Qlik provides monthly updates that contain new features and bug fixes for Talend Studio. After installing Talend Studio, you can configure how to update it. For more information, see [Updating Talend Studio](https://help.qlik.com/talend/en-US/installation-guide-linux/8.0/updating-talend-studio "Qlik provides monthly updates that contain new features and bug fixes for Talend Studio.").

Talend Studio downloads feature packages and monthly updates from an update repository. You need to configure the connection to this update repository in Talend Studio. Qlik provides an official update repository, https://update.talend.com/Studio/8/updates, for feature packages and monthly updates. You can also set up your own update repository by creating a proxy repository that links to the official repository or by hosting the official repository. For more information, see [Configuring update repositories](https://help.qlik.com/talend/en-US/studio-user-guide/8.0/configuring-update-repositories) and [Setting up an update repository for Talend Studio and Continuous Integration](https://help.qlik.com/talend/en-US/installation-guide-linux/8.0/setting-up-update-repositories-for-studio-and-ci "Qlik provides the following ways to set up an update repository, also called p2 repository, before installing updates, namely the patch zips assigned to you, and feature packages in Talend Studio or building your project artifacts using Continuous Integration.").

Talend Studio requires specific external modules, either third-party Java libraries or database drivers, to be installed to connect to sources and targets. You need to install those external modules for Talend Studio to work properly. Qlik provides an official Nexus repository https://talend-update.talend.com/nexus for those external modules. If you are working in collaborative mode, you can set up an artifact repository to allow Talend Studio to download, install, and store those external modules in a centralized and shared way. For more information, see [Installing external modules](https://help.qlik.com/talend/en-US/studio-user-guide/8.0/installing-external-modules), [Installing and configuring an artifact repository for sharing external modules and software updates](https://help.qlik.com/talend/en-US/installation-guide-linux/8.0/install-config-artifact-repo "Talend Administration Center uses an artifact repository to store software updates and ESB and Data Integration Job artifacts. This artifact repository can be based on Sonatype Nexus or JFrog Artifactory."), and [Setting up the user library location](https://help.qlik.com/talend/en-US/administration-center-user-guide/8.0/setting-up-user-library-location).
