# Creating a compound data class

## Before you begin

You have been assigned a global role with the Application Administration capability.

## Procedure

1. Go to MANAGE > Data Classes.
2. Click Add then fill in the following fields.
   | Field | Description |
   | --- | --- |
   | Type | Select the Compound radio button.<br><br>You cannot edit<br>the type after it has been created. |
   | Name | Type in the name of the data class. |
   | Groups | Select one or more data classification groups. |
   | Description | Type in a description. |
3. Click OK.

## Results

You are ready to configure the new data class.
