# Cleaning the journal

Through their receivers, the journals grow in size and take up more space on the SQL-PROD and SQL-BACKUP server disks when it is switched to a production server. You must clean these receivers routinely (see [Creating a journal and journalizing a file](https://help.qlik.com/talend/en-US/change-data-capture-reference-guide/7.3/creating-journal-and-journalizing-file).
