Installing, importing and exporting custom components

A custom component is a type of extension. You install custom components the same way as you install visualization extensions.

Installing, importing and exporting your visualizations

Installing custom components in Qlik Sense Desktop

Do the following:

  1. Open a Windows Explorer window and navigate to ..\Users\<UserName>\Documents\Qlik\Sense\Extensions.

  2. Create a new folder and give it a suitable name.

  3. Copy the files that you created or downloaded to the new folder.

There should be at least one JavaScript file and one QEXT file, but there can be more files.

Importing custom components in Qlik Sense Enterprise

Do the following:

  1. Create a zipped file of the extension project containing all the files.

  2. Open Qlik Management Console.

  3. Select Extensions on the QMC start page or from the Start S drop-down menu to display the overview.

  4. Click P Import in the top right corner.

  5. Select a file to import.

Enter the password for the zip file if it is password protected.

  6. Browse to and click the zipped custom component file that you want to add.
  7. Click Open in the File explorer window.

  8. Click Import.

Note: If the name of an extension already exists (or occurs more than once in the zip file), the zip file will not be uploaded. An extension within an extension in the zip file will be accessible in the extensions overview (and stored twice on disk).
Note: Extensions are saved to ..ProgramData\Qlik\Sense\Repository\Extensions. The maximum file size is half of the free disk space.

Using installed custom components

You can start using your custom components in the Widget editor immediately after they have been installed.

Tip: Reload the Widget editor after you have installed a new custom component.

Exporting custom components in Qlik Sense Enterprise

You can export custom components via the Qlik Management Console (QMC).

Do the following:

  1. Open Qlik Management Console.
  2. Select Extensions on the QMC start page or from the StartS drop-down menu to display the overview.
  3. Select the custom component from the list and then click Export.

The custom component is exported to a ZIP file that is saved in the \Users\<username>\Downloads folder on your local machine.

You have now exported a custom component and you can share it with others.
