Refreshing data in group apps

You can refresh the data in an app that has been published to a group stream in Qlik Sense Cloud Business. The ability to refresh data simplifies updating apps that have connections where the data may change.

The option to refresh data is available when you right-click an app in the group workspace. However, data is only refreshed in the copy of the app that is published to a group stream.

You can refresh data manually. You can also refresh data on a schedule that you set. You can configure a daily, weekly, or monthly schedule.

If you have already entered your credentials for a connection to an app, you will not need to enter them again when you refresh data, unless the credentials for your connection have changed.

Limitations

You must wait 30 minutes after an app has been published to reload data.

Your data file size is restricted based on your subscription type. See: App size and storage space in cloud

Warning: You can use the Data load editor to add data sources that are larger than 250 MB. However, app size is limited by subscription type. Adding data sources that cause apps to go over size limits may cause task failure.

Refreshing data in an app

Do the following:

  1. In your group workspace, right-click an app that has been published to a group stream.
  2. Click Refresh published data.

A message appears indicating that the data is being refreshed. The group workspace icon for the app changes to a sync icon while data is refreshing and Refresh published data becomes unavailable for that app.

A message will then appear indicating if the refresh was a success or a failure. If the refresh is successful, the data in the app in the stream is updated.

Note:

Refreshing data does not refresh the data in the group workspace app. To update the data in this app, you have to reload the data using the data manager. For more information, see Adding data from an existing data source.

If failed, the data refresh was unsuccessful and the app is not updated. For possible causes and troubleshooting tips, see Troubleshooting - Refreshing data in Qlik Sense Cloud.

Refreshing data in an app on a schedule

Do the following:

  1. In your group workspace, right-click an app that has been published to a stream in a group.
  2. Click Schedule published data refresh.
  3. If not already selected, select Schedule published data refresh.
  4. Select Daily, Weekly, or Monthly.

For the daily schedule, you have to select a time. For the weekly schedule, you have to select a day of the week, and a time. For the monthly schedule, you have to select a day in the month, and a time.

  5. Click Update.

The data in the app in the stream is updated with the latest data according to the schedule. The data in the app in the group workspace is not updated. To update the data in the app in the group workspace, you have to re-load the data using the data manager. For more information, see Adding data from an existing data source.

Viewing the schedule and status of data refreshes

You can view the refresh schedule and the status of the last data refresh in Schedule publish data refresh. There data refreshes have the following possible statuses:

  • Succeed: The last data refresh was successful and the published app was updated with current data.
  • Pending: The first data refresh of a new or updated schedule has not happened yet.
  • Failed: The last data refresh was unsuccessful and the published app was not updated with current data. For possible causes and troubleshooting tips, see Troubleshooting - Refreshing data in Qlik Sense Cloud.
  • Skipped: The last data refresh was skipped as the app was unpublished.

Do the following:

  • Right-click the app and then select Schedule publish data refresh. The window that opens shows your current schedule, the status of the latest data refresh, and the next scheduled data refresh.
