Integrating Qlik Data Catalyst with Qlik Sense Enterprise

Follow the steps in this procedure to manually configure the integration of the Qlik Data Catalyst (QDC) with Qlik Sense Enterprise.

Do the following:

  1. Install Qlik Sense Enterprise on Windows on your test environment:

    Note: Remember to allocate access to yourself after installation.
  2. Enable the QDC Catalog Service:

    1. Open the services.conf file located here: C:\Program Files\Qlik\Sense\ServiceDispatcher.
    2. In the qdc-catalog-service section, set Disabled=false.
    3. Using the Services management console, restart the Qlik Sense Service Dispatcher.

  3. Create a shared QVD repository:

    1. On your C: drive, create a new folder called qvd_repository.
    2. In the Windows Start menu, type Computer Management to open the app.
    3. Open Local Users and Groups > Users.
    4. Right-click and select New User.
    5. Enter User name: qvd_scanner, Full name: QVD Scanner, and Description: QVD Scanner.
    6. Enter a password, and, optionally, modify the password settings.
    7. Click Create.
    8. Right-click your new folder qvd_repository and select Properties.
    9. Open the Sharing tab and click Share.
    10. Enter qvd_scanner and click Add.
    11. For QVD Scanner, change the Permission Level to Read/Write.
    12. Click Share and then Done.
  4. Mount the file share:

    1. Open the folder qvd_repository.
    2. In the folder, right-click and select New > Rich Text Document.
    3. Edit the file name and extension so that it reads readme.txt.
    4. Open a command prompt and type net view \\<host name>.
    5. Verify that qvd_repository is present as a shared resource.
    6. Open Computer Management again and navigate to Local Users and Groups > Users.
    7. Click qvd_scanner so that it is selected.
    8. Open Bash.
    9. Enter the following to create a mount point:

      sudo mkdir - p /qvd_repositories/<windows_hostname>
    10. Enter the following to create a permissions file:

      sudo mkdir - p /qvd_repositories/<windows_hostname>
      sudo touch /root/.<windows_hostname>_credentials
      username=<qvd_scanner>
      domain=<domain>
      password=<password>
    11. Enter the following to create modify mounts:

      sudo emacs /etc/fstab
      //<windows_hostname>/qvd_repository /qvd_repositories/<windows_hostname> cifs
      credentials=/root/.<windows_hostname>_credentials 0 0
  5. Set up JWT access for QDC:

    1. Navigate to the Qlik Management Console page: https://[installation host]/qmc and authenticate.

    2. On a new tab, navigate to the setup page for the QDC Catalog Service, located here: https://[installation host]/api/qdc/v1/setup/ui/page.html.

    3. Open the QDC JWT section.

    4. Review the values for the different fields and click Generate.

      A message is displayed: Successfully updated QDC-QSE security settings.

    5. In the Qlik Management Console, open the Users section and verify that qlik-data-catalyst is present.

    6. Open the Security rules section and verify that Qlik Data Catalyst Security... is present.

    7. Open the Tags section and verify that QVD Catalog is present.

    8. Open the Virtual proxies section and verify that Qlik Data Catalyst is present.

  6. Prepare the data connection:

    1. Open the Qlik Sense hub.

    2. Create a new app and open it.

    3. Click Add data from files and other sources.

    4. In the menu to the left, click File locations.

    5. Navigate to your qvd_repository folder on your C: drive.

    6. Open one of the QVDs and click Add data.

    7. In the Qlik Management Console, open the section Data connections.

    8. Select the qvd_repository data connection and click Edit.

    9. In the Properties menu to the right, select Tags.

    10. Click in the Tags field, select QVD Catalog and click Apply.

  7. Configure the QDC server:

    1. Log in to Qlik Data Catalyst.

    2. Open Windows Firewall in the control panel.

    3. Verify that Domain networks have the status Connected.

    4. To the left, select Turn Windows Firewall on or off.

    5. In the Domain network settings section, select Turn off Windows Firewall and click OK.

    6. In Qlik Data Catalyst, open the Admin section.

    7. Open the QVD Import section.

    8. Click Add New Connector.

    9. Enter Connector Name: <host name> and Default QVD Mount Point: /qvd_repositories/<host name>.

    10. Enter Host: <QMC host address> and Proxy: qdc.

    11. Open the QDC Catalog Service.

    12. Open the QDC JWT section and copy the JWT.

    13. Return to the Qlik Data Catalyst admin section and paste the JWT in the field JSON Web Token (JWT).

    14. Click Test Connector.

      A success message is displayed at the top of the screen.

    15. Click Save.

    16. Click Show QVD Paths.

    17. Click Sync Paths.

      A qvd_repository path appears.

    18. Click the pen icon to enter the source name: <host> and click OK.
    19. On the QVD Paths page, click Accept.
    20. Open the QVD Import section.
    21. In the Qlik Sense Connector window, select SCHEDULE.
    22. Set Job Type to Full Reload and clear the Load Data selection.
    23. Click Run.
    24. In the menu to the left, open Catalog to verify that the QVDs are present.
    25. On your C: drive, open the qvd_repository folder and verify that the five QVDs are present.
  8. Configure the QDC Catalog Service:

    1. Navigate to the setup page for the QDC Catalog Service.

    2. Expand the PostgreSQL Server section and enter the information requested. These settings can be the same ones used by Qlik Sense Repository Service. The settings provided can be validated using the Test button. Use the Apply button to persist the settings.

    3. Using the Services management console, restart the Qlik Sense Service Dispatcher.

    4. Open Qlik Data Catalyst and copy the path.

    5. Navigate to/reload the setup page for the QDC Catalog Service.

    6. Expand the QDC Server section and enter the information requested.

    7. Validate the settings using the Test button and then click Apply.

  9. Use QDC Catalog from QSE:
    1. Open the Qlik Sense hub.

    2. Create a new app.

    3. Click Add data from files and other sources.

    4. In the menu to the left, click QVD Catalog.

      The available QVDs are displayed.
