# Prerequisites for using a Linux ODBC driver

To use a Linux ODBC driver, make sure to:

* Install the latest 64-bit ODBC driver for your Hadoop distribution on the Replicate Server machine.

* *After* the driver is installed: Edit the <distribution>.hiveodbc.ini file as follows:

  * `DriverManagerEncoding=UTF-16`
  * `ODBCInstLib=libodbcinst.so`
