# Change data partitioning

When replicating to a File target, for each of the source tables, a directory is created under the specified target directory. When [Change Data Partitioning](https://help.qlik.com/en-US/replicate/May2025/Content/Global_Common/Content/SharedEMReplicate/Customize%20Tasks/store_changes_settings.htm#Change) is enabled, an additional sub-directory is created under the corresponding table directory. The data and metadata (when the metadata option is enabled) files are located in the partition subdirectory, as in the following example:

`	{Target Directory}
		{Table_1}
			{Partition_1}
				Data files
				DFM files
			{Partition_2}
				Data files
				DFM files
			{Partition_3}
				Data files
				DFM files
		{Table_2}
			{Partition_1}
				Data files
				DFM files
			{Partition_2}
				Data files
				DFM files
			{Partition_3}
				Data files
				DFM files`

Information about the partitions is written to the attrep\_cdc\_partitions Control Table. For information about this table, see [Change data partitions](https://help.qlik.com/en-US/replicate/May2025/Content/Global_Common/Content/SharedEMReplicate/Customize%20Tasks/CDC_Partition.htm).
