Adding tasks

Before you get started with designing the features that you need for a task, you must first define the task's default behavior.

  1. In Tasks view, click New Task.

The New Task dialog box opens.

    New Task dialog box

  2. Enter a name for the task. The name should be descriptive to indicate the purpose of the task. The name cannot exceed 32 characters, contain non-Latin characters, or contain any of the following characters: | \ / : * ? " < >
  3. Optionally, enter a description for the task.
  4. Choose one of the following replication profiles:
    • Unidirectional - Choose to replicate between endpoints for the purpose of Unidirectional.
    • Bidirectional - Choose to synchronize records between two endpoints.

For more information, see the instructions on setting up Bidirectional replication.

    • Log Stream Staging - Log Stream Staging enables a dedicated Replicate task to save data changes from the transaction log of a single source database and apply them to multiple targets, without the overhead of reading the logs for each target separately.

For more information, see Using the Log Stream.

    • Qlik Cloud Landing - Use this profile for tasks that land data for Qlik's Hybrid Data Delivery service. The Hybrid Data Delivery service is part of Qlik Cloud Data Services. For more information, see Hybrid data delivery.

      When this profile is selected:

      • Tasks will have the following icon:

      • The Apply Changes replication option (see below) and the Apply Changes Settings tab will be unavailable.
      • The following target endpoints will be available for selection only:

Information noteWith the exception of Qlik Cloud Landing, all endpoints require Replicate May 2021 SR4 or later.
      • You will not be able to turn off the Change Data Partitioning option in the task settings (as it is required when using this profile).
      • Full Load tasks that fail will appear as "Completed" in the monitoring status bar, but a "Completed with error" message will be shown below the status bar. This is due to the fact that when working with Hybrid Data Delivery, the Replicate Full Load process is less important than the Change Capture process, which begins as soon as the task starts and continues for as long as the task is running. The Full Load data may even be provided by means other than Replicate such as shipping of a backup, for example. So while it's important to know that the Full Load did not complete successfully, there's no long-term impact as the tables can be reloaded on demand (or even from an earlier "version" of the Full Load data).

  5. Select task options:
    • Full Load: Click to enable or disable Full Load options for this task.

When full load is enabled, Qlik Replicate loads the initial source data to the target endpoint. By default a full load is carried out for this task. If you want to change this setting after you begin working with this task, you make the change in the Task Settings, Full Load tab.

    • Apply Changes: Click to enable or disable Apply Changes (Change Processing).

When this option is enabled, Qlik Replicate processes the changes. By default, change processing is carried out for this task. You can view the change processing in the Monitor view.

For more information, see Monitoring change processing operations. If you want to change this setting after you begin working with this task, you make the change in the Task Settings > Change Processing tab.

      Information note
      • When the Bidirectional replication profile is selected, the Apply Changes option cannot be disabled.
      • When the Qlik Cloud Landing replication profile is selected, this option will be unavailable.
    • Store Changes: Click this button to enable or disable Store Changes.

If this option is enabled, changes are stored in change tables or in an audit table. By default, changes are not stored.

For information about storing and applying changes, see Working with Change Tables and Using an Audit table.

      Information note

When the Bidirectional replication profile is selected, the Store Changes button will be unavailable.

  6. Click OK to close the New Task dialog box and save your settings.
