You can use any cell value or group of cell values from QlikView or Qlik Sense objects in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, HTML, or PixelPerfect reports.
Cells are imported into Qlik NPrinting report templates from documents and apps based on their position. For example, you can import the cell that is in the third column of the first row.
In QlikView connections, cell #1 selects the value from the total row (at the top). In Qlik Sense connections, cell #1 selects the first value of the table (excluding the total row).
If you change something in the original app or document, you will have to update your Qlik NPrinting report template. Cells work on a positional basis and cannot follow changes in the source objects. These have to be managed. For example, Qlik NPrinting will not automatically update cell nodes if you switch column 2 and column 3 in Qlik Sense.
Inserting cell values into an Excel report
The following example shows how to insert QlikView cell values into an Excel report template. You will insert the same chart object with the same cell position four times, but with different formatting.
Specifying cells from a QlikView document
Do the following:
- Open an existing Excel report template, or create a new one.
- Create a new cell:
In the left-hand pane, right-click the Cells node, and select Add cells. A new window opens.
- Click the browse icon ... to the right of the Object field.
- Select a chart object from the list. Click OK.
Qlik NPrinting automatically fills the Name field. The first number after the name indicates the cell row. The second number indicates the cell column. You can change the name if needed.
- The Description field is optional.
In the Top Row field, enter the number 1 .
If the Bottom Row field now also contains the number 1: you are selecting cells from only one row. Row 0 is the row of QlikView object titles, so row 1 is the first data row.
In the Left Column field, enter the number 1 .
If the Right Column field now also contains the number 1: you are selecting cells from only one column. Column 0 is the first column on the left of the source QlikView object.
- Keep the Keep Source Formats box selected. Click OK.
- Repeat steps a-g. Clear the Keep Source Formats box.
- Repeat steps a-g. Clear the Keep Source Formats box and add the format code "$ #,##0.00" to the Format field.
- Repeat steps a-g. Clear the Keep Source Formats box. You will use Excel formatting tools to format the cell containing this cell value.
Adding the cell values to the template
Do the following:
- Drag each cell value node token onto an empty cell in the template.
Format the fourth cell value you created using Excel formatting options.
For example: change the font size and color.
Click Preview. You will see the same cell value formatted four ways:
- A cell formatted the same as the original document.
- A cell with no formatting.
- A cell with the custom format "$ #,##0.00" applied by Qlik NPrinting.
- A cell with custom Excel formats applied by you.
- Close the preview. You can continue to edit the template if necessary.
- Click Save and Close to save the template and close the Template Editor.
