# Create Spaces

The Create Spaces step retrieves all space definitions from the selected plan and attempts to create them in the Qlik Cloud tenant.

## Prerequisite steps

There are no prerequisite steps for this migration step.

## Step details

* Retrieval method:  
  Spaces are resolved by name, which is a unique and case-sensitive identifier in Qlik Cloud.

* Behavior:  
  If a space with the specified name already exists in the Qlik Cloud tenant, it will be automatically skipped and not recreated.

* Scope:  
  This step includes both shared and managed space types, depending on the plan configuration.

## Notes

* When using space name prefixes or postfixes in the plan configuration, those values are applied before attempting space creation.
* This step is a prerequisite for many downstream steps, such as importing applications or assigning users to spaces.
