Installing the Qlik SAP Network Server service

The SAP Network Server service is required when using the Extractor Connector. The service supports parallel loads and allows the use of Extractors containing many fields (field character sum greater that 1000). The service files are:

  • SrvService.exe
  • SrvService_Console.bat

These files are included in the connector installation package and placed in the following Program Files directory when the connector is installed:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\QlikTech\Custom Data\QvSAPConnector

The Network Server must itself be installed to make the service available. The service is only needed for the Extractor Connector.

Information noteThe Service setup file is installed in C:\Program Files\Common Files\QlikTech\Custom Data\QvSAPConnector and not in the folder C:\Program Files\Common Files\Qlik\Custom Data\QvSAPConnector even though only Qlik Sense is used.

Do the following:

  1. Start a new command prompt using Run as administrator and enter the path to the folder of SrvService_Console.bat.

  2. At the command prompt, start SrvService_Console.bat.

  3. Install the service by selecting option 2: Install Server Service.

  4. Once installed, select option 3: Start Service.

Information noteThe service can optionally be started from the Microsoft Management Console (MMC). In MMC, the service is called Qlik SAP Network Server.

To provide the highest level of security, the Network Server must be installed on the same system as the SAP Connector. The Network Server service uses localhost access by default to increase security for data transfer between the service and the Extractor Connector.

The service can be installed on a separate system from the connector, but in that case, the data transferred between the Network Server and the connector is not secure. Client systems that are not hosting the Network Server service cannot connect to the service by localhost. Those client systems must specify the IP address of the system running the service when connecting with the Extractor Connector.

Also, the system running the Network Server must add the client IP address of any system that connects to the service to its settings.config file. The settings.config file is located in:

C:\ProgramData\QlikTech\Custom Data\QvSAPConnector

Information note It is only possible to have one service per SAP environment running, to avoid a mismatch. For example, if a customer has different Develop, Test and Production environments, it is recommended that you have one service per environment. However they cannot be installed on the same server. The servers must have different IP addresses.

If multiple users connect to the SAP system from separate machines, only one of those machines can host the Network Server. In that case, only connections made from the system running the Network Server can use localhost. Connections made from the other machines will not be as secure.

The Network Server communicates with the SAP system on a separate, secure connection. That connection is secure whether the service is installed on the same system as the connector or on a separate system.

Information noteThe service has to be stopped during an upgrade of the connectors, and the file SrvService.exe should be replaced with the new version before starting the service again.

After installing the Network Server, see SAP Connector configuration for information on the configuration of connectors.

For more information on how to configure the Extractor Connector see SAP Extractor Connector configuration.
