# GitHub GitHub is a platform and cloud-based service for software development and version control using Git. You can use GitHub as a data source when landing or replicating data. GitHub integration replicates data using the [GitHub REST API v3](https://developer.github.com/v3/). See the [Schema](https://help.qlik.com/en-US/cloud-services/Subsystems/Hub/Content/Sense_Hub/DataIntegration/WebApplications/Connecting-GitHub-v2.htm#Schema) section for a list of objects available for replication. ## Preparing for authentication To access your data, you need to authenticate the connection with your account credentials. Information noteMake sure that the account you use has read access to the tables you want to fetch. To create a Personal Access Token, follow the steps outlined in the [GitHub documentation](https://docs.github.com/en/enterprise-cloud@latest/authentication/keeping-your-account-and-data-secure/managing-your-personal-access-tokens). You can choose to generate either a fine-grained token or a classic token: * Fine-grained token: When creating a fine-grained token, make sure to select the specific repository you want to replicate data from. * Classic token: For classic tokens, select at least the repo scope to allow replication and set an appropriate expiration date. Your token will be displayed only once, immediately after you generate it. Copy and paste it into a secured file. ## Creating the connection For more information, see [Connecting to SaaS applications](https://help.qlik.com/en-US/cloud-services/Subsystems/Hub/Content/Sense_Hub/DataIntegration/Landing/connecting-web-applications.htm). 1. Fill in the required connection properties. 2. Provide a name for the connection in Connection name. 3. Select Open connection metadata to define metadata for the connection when it has been created. 4. Click Create.
