# Review data connections

**Cadence:** Monthly

**Subscription model:** All

**Roles:** Tenant Admin (TA), Analytics Admin (AA—analytics spaces), Data Admin (DA—data spaces)

**Last verified:** 2026-05

| | Initial | Recurring |
| --- | --- | --- |
| **Estimated time** | 30 min | 15 min |

**Benefits:**

* Prevents broken reloads and pipelines after the connection owner leaves
* Confirms ownership and entitlement still align with the connection's required access
* Surfaces orphaned connections in personal spaces of departed users

## Goal

If the owner of a data connection leaves the tenant or loses space access, anything depending on that connection stops working. A monthly check ensures connection ownership is reassigned in time and that the new owner still holds the entitlement and space role to operate the connection.

> **Permission model reminder.** A connection's usability depends on all three of Qlik's permission layers: the new owner needs the right **entitlement**, an appropriate **security role**, and a **space role** that allows operating connections in that space. See [Glossary → Identity, access, and security](https://help.qlik.com/en-US/cloud-admin-playbook/Content/glossary.htm#identity-access-and-security).

## Tasks

| Task | TA | AA | DA | AuA |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Reassign data-connection ownership where the original owner is gone or no longer in the space | ✓ | ✓ (analytics) | ✓ (data spaces) | |
| Verify all connection owners still hold required entitlement and space role | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ | |

## Gotchas

* **Transferring ownership of a data connection resets its credentials.** The new owner must re-authenticate the connection (re-enter credentials) before it can be used for loading or selecting data. Plan for this in any offboarding or reassignment runbook—a reassigned connection isn't usable until the new owner supplies credentials. ([Managing data connections—new owner must authenticate](https://help.qlik.com/en-US/cloud-services/Subsystems/Hub/Content/Sense_Hub/Admin/mc-administer-data-connections.htm#anchor-4))

## Automation helpers

* **Alert app owners and Tenant Admins about orphaned data connections**—Directly surfaces the orphaned / owner-departed connections this review targets.
